Observe Insects

If children can observe insects in a natural setting, have them draw an insect and label its anatomy (wings, antennae, eyes, body, legs, etc.). Children may include observations about its size, color, and movements. Have them share with you or another family member what they noticed about the insects as they observed them. If it is possible to observe various insects over a period of time, have children collect their drawings and information in a “Bug Book” or a notebook called “Insect Information.” Continue to create opportunities for your child to share similarities and differences between insects.
