Sing a Cumulative Song

Introduce the child to a cumulative song such as “The Farmyard Song (I Bought Me a Cat, Fiddle-Eye-Fee)” or "Old MacDonald Had a Farm." Once the child is familiar with the words and the tune, have the child add a verse in the repetitive pattern of the lyrics. You can introduce new animals and animal sounds to add to the song as needed. Then, see if the child can sing all of the verses together, all the way through. Talk about how the repetition of animals each time helped them remember all of the verses.
