If children sing songs often, they will have a repertoire of known songs, and you can highlight rhymes, syllables and beginning and ending sounds. Choose a few songs that your child knows by heart and sing them together. Point out the rhyming words, and ask the child to think of other words they know that sound the same. Ask the child to respond to questions related to units of sound (“I’m thinking of a word that rhymes with jam. What do you think it is?”).
