Work on real-world writing skills by having the child write a list. Talk about the kinds of everyday things, and special things, that families do together, and have the child write them down as you talk. For example, eating meals together, watching TV together, or playing with siblings. Then, write a second list of special things, like going on a vacation. When the lists are done, ask the child to pick out their favorite item on each list and write a paragraph about what it means to them. Bonus: draw pictures, too!
