Talk about the types of homes that pets sleep or live in, such as fish aquariums, doghouses, and cages for smaller animals such as gerbils, hamsters, and guinea pigs. Discuss how caring for pets includes making sure they have a safe, comfortable place to live or sleep. Provide cardboard boxes and individual pieces of cardboard, along with colored markers, paints, or crayons and other art supplies, so the child can build and decorate doghouses (or “pet houses”).
