Role Play: Be a Welcoming Friend

Role Play: Be a Welcoming Friend

Talk to the child about a time that they felt they did not belong, such as their experiences on the first day of school, or being new to a sports team or at camp, or moving to a new place. Brainstorm a list of feelings that they experienced, and then talk about the ways they made the situation better, or the people that helped them. How does having friends help you to feel that you belong? Use the list of feelings to generate dialogue and actions, and then role play different ways to welcome someone who is new.
