Explore Narrative Nonfiction

Select narrative nonfiction books for the student to read, about real people, places, and animals, while the information is shared through a narrative structure. A narrative nonfiction text organizes information in chronological order, so that it reads like a story. Point out that narrative nonfiction usually has a deeper central message, and often uses literary language. Have the student choose a topic related to a past event in their community or school. Have the student gather information on the event and write a brief, factual account of the event, using the elements of narrative nonfiction.
