Create a Hybrid Text
Discuss hybrid books, which contain fictional elements as well as factual information. Distribute art supplies and blank sheets of paper. Have students pick a topic of their choice that relates in some way to nature (for example, marine life, snakes, or insects). Have the student gather 2-3 facts on their topic and create a brief fictional narrative to accompany the facts. This creates a hybrid text. Have the student create illustrations and talk about the different techniques they used with both language and illustrations and organization.
