Sharing Your Culture
Sharing Your Culture
Help the student to think more deeply about their own traditions within their family or community. Invite the student to find an object or create a visual representation of some aspect of their culture (for example, a recipe for a traditional food, a book, or a photo album or collage). Encourage them to compare their own cultures to other cultures they have learned about. Invite them to write about their objects or mementos and tell the class why they chose the object. The student can analyze how the objects represent their own families. When selecting what to share, the student may wish to converse with other family members or members of the community in order to identify an object that has significance beyond the individual.
