Act Out a Bear Hunt

Teach the child the folk song, "We're Going on a Bear Hunt." After becoming familiar with the repetitive patterns of the lyrics, invite the child to "go" on a bear hunt with you! Move safely through the room or classroom and pantomime going through the river, mud, forest, snowstorm, and cave. Emphasize the refrain of “We can’t go over it. We can’t go under it. Oh, no! We’ve got to go through it!” using hand gestures and motions. Quickly travel back home (to a rug or other meeting area) once you have spotted the bear! Lie down and hide under imaginary covers.
