Explore Narrative Nonfiction
Invite the student to think about their favorite books about real places, animals, people, and events, in which information is shared through a narrative structure. A narrative nonfiction text organizes information in chronological order, so that it reads like a story. Point out that narrative nonfiction usually has a deeper central message and often uses literary language. Have the student choose a topic related to a past event in their community or school, then gather information on the event and write a brief, factual account of the event, using the elements of narrative nonfiction.
