Explore Change in Vanishing Cultures

Use the Internet or available reference books to do some research on vanishing indigenous cultures, like those in the Sahara, the Himalaya, the Amazon Basin, and the Far North, to find out more of their history. Let the student select one culture for a deep dive. Invite the student to uncover what life was like 100 years ago for the culture and then compare their results to the way the culture is now. Ask the student, “What was different about the past? Why did change occur?” “Was the change positive? If not, could the change have been prevented? How?” “What is different today?” Encourage the student to answer these questions and present their comparisons in a medium of their choice.
