Make a Lesson Mosaic
Talk with the student about some of the things that the you learned from older family members. Invite the student to recall something valuable that they’ve learned from an older relative. Demonstrate what you mean by offering examples, such as learning a special family recipe, learning a skill such as gardening or sewing, or learning a song or story. Distribute four blank squares of white paper to each student, along with markers or paints. Have the student write a sentence about one lesson on each square and then decorate their square. When finished, lay the squares together, edge to edge, on a large posterboard, and glue them down, creating a mosaic of squares.
