Keep a Reading Journal

Have children use a small notebook (or use their Reader's Notebook) to list all the books they read and that you read together. Encourage them to add a brief statement about each book (e.g. “This book made me laugh.") along with the author/illustrator’s name. This shows children that reading books is important, it helps them remember the thoughts they’ve had about books and gives them a sense of accomplishment as their list grows.
