A Message from Irene Fountas and Gay Su Pinnell

As we continue to deal with new challenges every day, our primary concern is for the health and well-being of all. We hope that adults and children around the country are taking health and safety precautions seriously, and we want you to know that we are thinking of you and of all the challenges you and your students are faced with at this unprecedented time.

Right now it is especially important that we engage children in as much enjoyment as possible each day, and that we try to nurture a sense of community, even from a distance. As much as possible, try to replicate some of the activities of your classroom community by engaging with your group on a regular basis if they have access to internet by computer or phone. You might consider, for example, a morning roundup in which your students all sign on for a community greeting and sharing. The interaction and seeing each other’s faces will be comforting and familiar to students.

The Fountas & Pinnell Literacy™ team is working on ideas to keep that community connection and literacy learning alive in this remote learning environment, and we will share those ideas with you as soon as possible. We invite you to stay in collaboration and community on the Fountas & Pinnell Literacy™ Learning Group on Facebook.

~The Fountas & Pinnell Literacy™ Team
